Last year I went for the first time and let me tell ya, I really loved it. It’s amazing to me how you start to feel a connection to these young aspiring stars, as if they were part of your own family. And I suppose in some sense, we are all part of the American idol family.
Watching these young stars give it their all, beginning with the American idol auditions, right on through to the top 10 (or is it 12?), observing their improvement, their responses to the judges critiques and their struggles to survive from week to week as their competition turn into close friends… it is a great feeling to be in a place where you can show your appreciation in person and at the same time enjoy some incredible performances.
Isn’t it interesting how we can look back at the past American idols and reflect on the ones that we thought would do well in the music industry and how surprising the results actually turn out. I don’t know about you but I’ve been wrong more than once. Truth be known, I felt that Katherine Mcphee was the best singer in Season 5. I now realize that great singing ability is not the only criteria for success in the Music world.
Thus far we’ve had 8 American Idol winners.
Here they are in order.
- Season 1 – Kelly Clarkson,
Season 2 – Ruben Studdard,
Season 3 – Fantasia Barrino,
Season 4 – Carrie Underwood,
Season 5 – Taylor Hicks,
Season 6 – Jordin Sparks,
Season 7 – David Cook and last year’s
Season 8 – winner was Kris Allen.
And even though the list below did not win the competition, here are a few past American Idol finalists and contestants that did have some success or notoriety due at least in part to their exposure on AI. Chris Daughtry, needless to say his success surpasses more than a few of the American Idol winners and I believe he was voted off around #4? Way to go Chris! As you should know by now, America doesn’t always get it right. The real popularity contest is when it’s all over.
Clay Aiken, Kelly Pickler, Adam Lambert, Bucky Covington, Elliott Yamin, Bo Bice, Josh Gracin, Kimberly Locke, Jennifer Hudson, Mandisa, Constantine Maroulis, Melinda Dolittle and Kimberly Caldwell. And let me not fail to mention Sanjaya and William Hung.
Who will win Season 9 and (whoever they are) will they be the most successful of the Season 9 finalists? That is why we watch the show the folks. But here’s a few questions I have for ya.
- Who will be your favorite this year?
Will you have more than one? (I always do)
Will your opinion change as the season progresses?
Will we laugh more at Ellen DeGeneres when she makes an off the wall comment, than we did at Paula’s banter with Simon Cowell? I think so.
Will the dynamics change between Ryan Seacrest and Simon now that Ellen is there?
Will Kara Dioguardi compete for best body and lastly…
Will Randy Jackson ever stop calling contestants “dogs?” lol I hope not. He’s a character too, isn’t he?
I hope you enjoyed these thoughts about this upcoming season and if this is the year that you decide that going to an American Idol concert is for you, perhaps I’ll see you there! Ya never know. For information on American Idols go to www.americanidol.com
Please let me know what YOU think by leaving your comments below. Thanx.

That is definitely unbelievable and really nicely written. Generally I tend not to make posts on post on blogs, However , I have got to congratulate you on this one. Superb article
I will confess that AI is getting a little tiresome but I still like it because it is an “easy” watch for me.
