American Idol Top 16On Thursday night we said goodbye to 4 more American Idol hopefuls. If you’ve been watching the show consistently I’m sure you realize the incredible talent in this year’s crop (for lack of a better term) and how painful it was to say goodbye to these 4 potential stars.

My daughter was so upset when the verdict came down against Alex Lambert that I thought she was going to cry. At the time, I believe I was still in shock over the loss of Katelyn Epperly. I do have to admit that her song choice on Tuesday was not the best (Carol King’s “I feel the Earth Move”), and I suspect that in retrospect she would agree, but her performance last week on the piano was incredible. I never dreamt that she’d be one of the four let go this week.

Alex (along with Lee Dewyze), arguably has one of the most unique voices of the top 24 contestants and did seem to lack confidence at times as pointed out by the Idol judges. However, as we all know, confidence is something that can be gained over time and I’m sure if Alex keeps on singing it is inevitable.

In addition to Katelyn and Alex we also said goodbye to Todrick Hall and Lilly Scott who joined these eight contestants who were let go in the previous two weeks in no particular order, Janell Wheeler, Tyler Grady, Ashley Rodriguez, Joe Munoz, Michelle Delamor, John Park, Jermaine Sellers and Haeley Vaughn.

Todrick may have had his best performance on Wednesday night when he sang “Somebody to Love” and took the bad news very graciously. He seemed to know that he got some fantastic exposure just by making it this far and appeared very pleased to have been such a big part of Season 9. Good luck to Todrick, Lilly, Alex and Katelyn.

Here are the remaining top 12 contestants.
Katie Stevens, Andrew Garcia, Aaron Kelly, Lacey Brown, Big Mike Lynche, Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze, Tim Urban, Casey James, Paige Miles, Siobhan Magnus and Didi Benami.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe this is the point in the season when the stage becomes much bigger along with the crowd and the contestants must begin choosing their songs from a particular theme.

I’m not sure when we’ll start to see guest singers who will help the contestants with their performances and song choices, but I know that should be starting very soon as well.

Keep voting!
Sandy
