American Idol 2010 – Season 9 Archives

Judges Dropping Like Flys?

Can it be true?

Just yesterday it was reported that Ellen Degeneres voluntarily removed herself from the American Idol judges panel and now today’s buzz is that Kara DioGuardi may have been fired.

Rumor has it that Season 10 will move the judges panel back to only 3 instead of the 4 panel set created when Kara DioGuardi was added just 2 seasons ago. Kara & Ellen are rumored to be replaced with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

I personally felt that Ellen was not suited for that responsibility and often appeared out of her element like a fish out of water. No offense. I still love Ellen. It’s just not her forte.

However, Kara on the other hand was arguably the second best judge American Idol has ever seen.

I look forward to reading everyone’s thoughts about this. Please make a comment below. Also include your thoughts and opinions about J-Lo and Steven Tyler as replacements.

Thanks!

I Had Trouble Voting

Last night I attempted to place my vote(s) and could not get through.

Did anyone else have any problems? It wasn’t the typical message that I get when the lines are jammed because of so many calls. This message actually had one of those error sounds associated with it and the message said something about the phone company having problems connecting my call and to please call back again at a later time.

I’m thinkin’… sure… easy for you to say lady. We’re on the clock here! lol

In any case, it was not the same message I’ve gotten in the past and I certainly hope that it was not an indication of a problem that would affect the outcome of this season. That would be horrible.

I gotta tell ya, although all 3 of the remaining contestants are very good, I am pulling for Lee to win.

I’d love to hear what you think below.

We’ll see who will be in the finale in a matter of minutes.

Double Elimination Tonight!

Last week the Idol judges decided to use their one save of the season to save Big Mike Lynche.

Was it a good move? We’ll find out tonight. If Big Mike is one of the two contestants that gets eliminated tonight than the Idol save was pretty much worthless. Sure he would have gotten to spend an extra week doing what the other eight contestants do and enjoyed another performance before the American audience, but the intention of the judges save is to prevent someone that in the opinion of the judges, is being eliminated before his or her time compared to the remaining contestants.

Perhaps I should be clear that this is my understanding of it and I completely agree that it is good for the show as well as the contestants.

As I recall, one of the earlier seasons had a potential winner eliminated with about 6 weeks to go to the finale. I won’t mention any names and just let you wonder who you think it might have been.

Please feel free to comment below if you have an opinion about it.

As for tonight, I was a big fan of Andrew Garcia earlier on, but I truly feel that his time to go has come. As for the elimination of the 2nd contestant I am actually leaning toward Big Mike, but I don’t feel that his elimination is as warranted as Andrew’s, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Tim Urban really impressed me last night and I find myself very surprised that I now do NOT believe that he should be one to go. Only a few weeks ago, I did.

Fortunately Lee DeWyze had a better performance this week compared to last and he is still one of my favorites along with Casey James, although I did feel that Casey’s performance last night was very forgettable.

There’s been a lot of buzz that Crystal Bowersox is the odd’s on favorite to win the whole thing. Not in my book. Although I do like Crystal I do not see her winning.

Please let me know what you think.

And Then There Were 12 – American Idol

American Idol Top 16On Thursday night we said goodbye to 4 more American Idol hopefuls. If you’ve been watching the show consistently I’m sure you realize the incredible talent in this year’s crop (for lack of a better term) and how painful it was to say goodbye to these 4 potential stars.

My daughter was so upset when the verdict came down against Alex Lambert that I thought she was going to cry. At the time, I believe I was still in shock over the loss of Katelyn Epperly. I do have to admit that her song choice on Tuesday was not the best (Carol King’s “I feel the Earth Move”), and I suspect that in retrospect she would agree, but her performance last week on the piano was incredible. I never dreamt that she’d be one of the four let go this week.

Alex (along with Lee Dewyze), arguably has one of the most unique voices of the top 24 contestants and did seem to lack confidence at times as pointed out by the Idol judges. However, as we all know, confidence is something that can be gained over time and I’m sure if Alex keeps on singing it is inevitable.

In addition to Katelyn and Alex we also said goodbye to Todrick Hall and Lilly Scott who joined these eight contestants who were let go in the previous two weeks in no particular order, Janell Wheeler, Tyler Grady, Ashley Rodriguez, Joe Munoz, Michelle Delamor, John Park, Jermaine Sellers and Haeley Vaughn.

Todrick may have had his best performance on Wednesday night when he sang “Somebody to Love” and took the bad news very graciously. He seemed to know that he got some fantastic exposure just by making it this far and appeared very pleased to have been such a big part of Season 9. Good luck to Todrick, Lilly, Alex and Katelyn.

Here are the remaining top 12 contestants.
Katie Stevens, Andrew Garcia, Aaron Kelly, Lacey Brown, Big Mike Lynche, Crystal Bowersox, Lee Dewyze, Tim Urban, Casey James, Paige Miles, Siobhan Magnus and Didi Benami.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe this is the point in the season when the stage becomes much bigger along with the crowd and the contestants must begin choosing their songs from a particular theme.

I’m not sure when we’ll start to see guest singers who will help the contestants with their performances and song choices, but I know that should be starting very soon as well.

Keep voting!
